Let's Get Your Creative Juices Flowing!!!
I've been so busy I haven't been able to post for the last few weeks. With my kids home for the summer and monthly travel plans, my creative schedule has been a bit all over the place. I just wanted to share my latest project, however, as this project is a special one for me.
I created her last week, I think the day before I left for Iceland. I was feeling guilt for leaving my kids and husband behind the very week they were returning to school, stressed because my Retreat is fast approaching and this trip was taking my attention away from preparing as much as I'd like to, rushed because I want to have lessons prepared for the Fun Fab Drawing Club and Mixed Media Society and angsty because I have a lot of companies breathing down my neck for reviews. All of that combined made me feel frozen and panicked all at the same time.
But I finally decided to go and practice what I preach. I know all too well how good arting is for the soul. What therapy it is!!! When I'm feeling so stressed, I don't turn to exercise, or council, I reach for my art supplies. It ALWAYS works...so why wasn't I doing that?! So I had a little come-to-Jesus-moment with myself and talked myself into creating for one day JUST FOR ME. No lesson plan, no ulterior motive, just for out-and-out therapy BECAUSE IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER.
And you know what?! IT TOTALLY WORKED!!!
I did record it, as I like to keep a record of what I use and how I make things so I can go back and reference those ideas and supplies again.
I hope you enjoy watching this super short 4 minute process video. I also hope that this post serves as a reminder of how much art truly can heal and inspire.
I'd love to know how art is therapy for you too. Does it help relieve your physical or emotional pain? I talk to my students about this quite frequently, it is an blessed escape for so so many! If you find comfort from creating, you can absolutely chat with me about it, I'd love to commiserate! If it's too deeply personal, I totally respect that too.
On a lighter note, my Iceland trip was A-MAZE-BALLS. I went with my mom and sister to celebrate my mom's 75th birthday. Glacier hiking, dips in Geothermal Rivers, Volcano Tube exploring, it's all here in this video recap I did from my trip! If you ever wanted to see what Iceland is like, highly recommend you watch the video below!
What Fans Are Saying
Karen, you are absolutely fabulous! You make me feel like I can draw anything. I have recently retired and finally have the time to do some of the art that I have loved since I was in school. I am really at the beginning of my art journey and I hope to learn as much as I can. Thank you for all you do.
