Watch my interview with Karen Richardson here!

Karen Richardson is a 59 year old Australian citizen who has been a member of the "Wonder Bundle" -  which means she is apart of (and can speak to) all 3 Art Clubs at Awesome Art School.

Celtic Collective member...

Thank you Karen and Lucy for this fantastic inspiration, contagious enthusiasm and accessible, non-intimidating teaching and to Tara and all the admin team for being so fabulous.

YouTube Fan...

After watching at least 80.000 face drawing videos, I finally found the one that my brain can understand. Thank you!

Shirley - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

I just had to write a few words to try to express how much I love your classes, your teaching style, you're encouraging and supportive energy,  all the hard work you put into making the awesome art school so easy to navigate and just you in general! Awesome art school is perfectly named because you're so awesome!
I'm one of your 60+ yrs old(61) students that never believed she had any art ability beyond drawing stick figures. And being told very young that my attempts at art was a useless activity. I feel like you've opened the doors to a Magic Kingdom for that little girl.
I love my results. And I'm sure it's because you make learning the skills so much fun!!! I love the process and can't wait to get to the next one, lol.
Thank you so much for being a game-changing life-changing influence in mine and so many people's lives.

Lynne, Fun Fab Drawing Club student...

Having the ability to make mistakes, have a giggle about them and brush them off and at the same time reach across the digital space and humanly connect is a rare talent.
I think we all watch countless tutorials, and I have done classes with other teacher artists, NONE have been more fun and informative…just saying!
So thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Love Lynne

Regina, Email Subscriber...

Thank you again for making tutorials that easy to follow and actually successful.  I have never drawn a face before.  Well not since I was 6 or 7. I turned 52 a week ago.    This is my goal for 2023 and although I have watched 20 of your video and did 5 and 5 series and collage I kept putting faces off even w your templates but your email asking to share made me brave and also wanting to show you your time and efforts are truly appreciated..  Stopping at each step worried I’d ruin what I did and let fear that over.  You have a gift of teaching and I am so grateful for finding you.

Sandra - Awesome Art School student...

Hi Karen, I wish I could give you a hug, I feel like my dreams of drawing and painting are coming true. I am almost 74 yrs old and have taken a few classes in the past that just didn't do it for me. Then I found you on Facebook and it has just clicked. I had almost given up. Thank God for you!

Nancy - Fun Fab Fairy participant...

You truly are an amazing teacher.   I like your tutorials soooo much better than all the other online tutorials I’ve tried.   I give you an A+++++.

Jill - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

I love the way that you teach and I am learning so much. Like many others, I never thought that I would be able to draw faces or anything else. Drawing all of the hands was a real eye opener for me and has made my observational skills so much better. I am having so much fun learning how to use all the different mediums and I am more confident in showing what I have been doing to my friends. My art has literally been a life saver during Covid and months of being chair bound due to multiple bleeds into my knee. Never would I have thought that I could learn all these things at my young age of 74!
Thank you!

Tam - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

I received my Official Guide & Workbook a couple days ago.  I am learning so much.
My drawing has already improved.
My confidence has also improved.
My new problem is I want to just draw all the time.
Like All The Time!

Janet - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

Thank you, Karen.   I am enjoying the classes & the best part is your excitement.   I always feel happier after watching you.

Cindy - YouTube fan...

Karen I have to tell you that your special gift is teaching. Things I have wanted to learn but could never quite grasp, become so easy with your explanations. Thank you for opening up a treasure chest of fun for me!

Anoynmous...

I just wanted you to know I have suffered from depression for many years. I want you to know going to your Awesome Art School has really helped me with it. You bring joy to my day. Just wanted you to know through your art you're changing people lives.

Evelyn - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

I am loving the Drawing Club. It is a fantastic course. I’ve not seen anything else like it. My drawing ability has gone from “How do I do a stick man again?” To “Wow look at the faces I can draw!” All In a couple of months. By the way I am about to turn 81 so believe me anyone can do it if they try.

Becky - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

I love the way you teach!!!  The first time I saw one of your lessons,  I was able to draw a girl in one setting!!!  You are AMAZING!!!  You make it SO FUN, too!!!

Marta - Fun Fab Drawing Club member...

I am grateful to have found you, your art and your instruction in this very strange year.  Signing up to your Fun Fab Drawing Club has given me an opportunity to do something just for me, and consciously setting aside "me-time" to draw has been wondrous!

Thank you for all you do and all you give.  You don't just teach art, you build self confidence in your students and give them a platform to share their progress that they otherwise might never have.

Dianne - Book Fan...

I do almost every other type of craft, including junk journaling. I never thought I could draw but you’ve gotten me started at 60! Thank you!

Denise - Mixed Media Challenge Participant, Fall 2020...

Karen,
I am legally blind and colour blind but I love to make art and I’m pretty good at it despite my vision. I had a pack of Stabilo pencils but didn’t know how to use them. Your class changed my life! Now I have a way of drawing and painting in black and white. I’m so happy! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You are a fantastic teacher!

Jean - Drawing Student...

Thank you Karen, I have always been artistic, but never thought I could do REALISTIC! Thank you so much. With your easy and thorough instructions I can!

Tasha

Your energy and love for art is contagious, I used to draw every single day in school and kids would pay me to draw on their binders. I always felt so inspired. Then life happened and I allowed myself to put my pencil down and never pick it up. Now I'm out of practice, but I've regained my passion thanks to your enthusiasm. I'm so glad I found you on YouTube! I hope good things for you, and thank you for giving me that long lost spark, I am 41 years old now and it came at a great time!

Wendy - Mixed Media Challenge Participant, Fall 2020...

I want to tell you that I have never thought I could draw anything that people would recognize for what is was supposed to be. I took your 5 day mix media challenges and was totally stoked that what I was drawing looking like what I could see in my mind and you made it so fun and easy.  I could not end this new relationship of teacher and student. I want to learn more!  I JOINED THE MIXED MEDIA SOCIETY- WOOHOO !  So excited to take my art to the next level. Thank you for lighting the fire to learn something new and pushing me to try new things and gaining new skills . So excited !

Denise - Mixed Media Society & Fun Fab Drawing Club Student...

I have learned so much from you and have had a glorious, fabulous, awesome time with you. You are unbelievable. I am self taught and have been painting and always creating something. At 64 and counting I have never learned so fast and had so much darn fun. You are a hoot and what a joy you are.

Jen from YouTube (Awesome Art School Student)...

I am also on my journey to being an awesome artist and it took many months of your lessons for me to reframe my thinking and not give up! Thank you so much Karen, you're a very unique and special person the way you teach art is revolutionary.

Trish from YouTube (Awesome Art School Student)...

Your positive nature is infectious. To anyone who hasn't joined Awesome Art School, lemme tell you it's the cheapest therapy I've ever purchased.

Yvonne Centofanti-Ucci (Fun Fab Drawing Club Student)...

Karen
You are so joyous every time I turn you on. I love how genuine you are and your ability to laugh at yourself. That trait has given me permission to laugh at myself thru my learning experience. You connect with your people a gift Oprah has and any good talk show host.
And you are truly a teacher. How you break things down ,give us cheat sheets, you just have a sense of what a new student needs. What supplies you enjoy and why. Things I needed to know cause I haven’t ever drawn or paint before Covid.
It has been my pleasure to watch you as often as I can.

Miranda (Mixed Society Student)...

I just have to give Karen a HUGE thank you! Before discovering you and your positive energy, I never thought I would be able to make a painting that I'd be proud of. I thought I had just enough talent to make a great big mess. Because of you, paint doesn't scare me. Making a mess doesn't scare me. I have discovered a part of me that I stifled for so many years. Thank you, dear heart. You ROCK!

Linda Levin, (Fun Fab Drawing Club and Mixed Media Society Student)...

I swear, Karen herself, her teaching methods changed my journey. I couldn't draw a stick man. Hell, I had trouble doodling and zentagling, much less thinking I might ever draw a face or body! OMG I can draw bodies now...WTH!!   Not only did she and those classes change my art world journey, but quite frankly the confidence that has grown there has touched a great many other areas of my life as well. Just wanted to share how her classes have worked for me ❤️

Maggie from YouTube (Fun Fab Drawing Club Student)...

Join her classes!! They are amazing! They are so good that I am in the process of moving and my limited income just got WAAAAAAAAAY smaller than it already was. Yep, when I was doing budgets to try and figure out how life was going to work. I listed it... Rent, utilities, food, art classes, then medicine... hahahaha You get soooooo much for your money. Seriously, I could stay in her classes 24/7 and there is always something more to learn and do. No one, I repeat, no one has anything better. Love them, love her! She has me even loving my own art...

From Tyra at Awesome Art School...

Hello Karen, I bought your Hamburger System paperback book and love, love, love it!!! As a beginner, I refer back to this detailed reference with questions often. Thanks for sharing your expertise and mixed media secrets with the world. I wouldn’t have a clue and would have given up on mixed media due to frustration without having this guide giving me step-by-step instructions about which direction to go on my projects. I also really enjoy your YouTube videos. You approach art fearlessly and this is both inspiring and admirable. Thanks for your encouragement! Your love for art is contagious! I highly recommend your books, videos, and Awesome Art School to everyone. “Happy Arting” Back At Ya!!!

Debra, Fun Fab Drawing Club Student...

Hey Karen,
I just wanted to drop a quick line to say...
I went from drawing a stick person to a full on face in 1 day = watching you!
Much love!

From Donna, Fun Fab Drawing Club Student...

I found Karen initially in Jan 20 via YouTube funfabfaces. After a couple of months or so of YouTube I joined the drawing club. I have really enjoyed the club and can't see me leaving, I'm really keen to make a start on artdeco, I usually have a couple of hours a week where I can dedicate to drawing. Prior to starting I couldn't draw a stick man. But now I happily pick up a pencil and draw faces, the new quadrant style is brilliant for really getting accurate scale drawings. I also follow the mixed media projects, I had a little dabble in the recent 3 day freebie, and as soon as I can afford it I shall be joining that club too. Honestly Karen is brilliant, her teaching style, her enthusiasm, I can only draw as well as I can because of Karen. Oh I've just remembered the reason I like the picture I submitted so much, is because my husband said he was so impressed he bought a frame and its on the wall in his office. Now that is ALL because of Karen and her ability to teach. Xx

Letter from Joy...

I can only handle so much these days you happy artist Goddess You!  I saw the book last week and I was just gasping for air, and I wasn't wearing my mask, Promise.  The pieces in the book and the colors are like dreams I have when I stay in tune with my true self. So thank you for always putting your whole heart and soul and mind and technique into what you do!!!! Please take a bow or do a cartwheel right now....

Michelle, Fun Fab Drawing Club student...

I have taken another type of artist courses before and couldn't really understand how he laid out the information in his course. He's a great artist but I couldn't understand the way he did things. You are completely the opposite. You are very easy to follow and you make it to where I can understand everything. I was so glad to find your school. I'm excited to learn. Faces are my favorite things to draw too...Thanks Karen for making it understandable!

Robin from YouTube...

One of the things I find so appealing about your tutorials is your honesty. Seeing mistakes that happen is part of the process of learning and growing. When my daughters were young I wished that they could see that process rather than a picture-perfect representation of what they should do or be. Your videos are one of the few that show that and I take my hat off to you.

From Maria on Etsy...

Thanks to you I can draw faces now and not be embarrassed that they look horrible! The hamburger system is a lifesaver. I have soooo much fun with it and it's such a stress reliever! I have always used my sketchbook to release stress and anxiety so again I thank you for your talent and channel. You're a great person and Friday's have become my favorite day because of your videos!

Email letter from Susan....

Hi Karen!
You have totally changed my life!!!
You are such an awesome and fun Teacher!
I’ve always wanted to draw faces, people anything really. But it looks worse than when I was a kiddo🤪
I’ve watched as many Utube videos of you as I can and you made it look fun and...Achievable!
So I bought your Fun Fab Faces book!
And you know what happened? I’m actually drawing faces
In fact I can’t seem to get that pencil to leave my hand 🖐
Who knew?? Well I guess YOU knew.
Thank you for changing my life!

Email from Deb....

Hi Karen,
Just wanted to send you an email and let you know personally how much you have impacted my creative spirit.  I'm confident I was born with a paint brush in my hand lol.  My style has always been pretty abstract.  Drawing faces or people has always been something that I would observe from afar and only wish I could do, or at least do to a level that I would feel confident to share them haha.
If you would have asked me a month ago to even try, let alone feel good about what I have accomplished over these last few weeks I would have laughed at you.  It's my birthday tomorrow and my very best present has been the fun I've had learning from you.
Thanks for sharing your talent. Thanks for making it fun. Thanks for giving me a whole avenue to explore that I wouldn't have even thought I would or could be in my wheel house.
You are what inspiration should be....

Amy from Facebook...

I just wanted to thank Karen for providing the best YouTube videos for help on drawing for free! There are other people giving drawing instruction, but it’s sped up or not is not as instructionally helpful, they save their best tips for their classes they sell. I really appreciate that Karen gives us a full instructional all the time on her free YouTube channel. That’s partially why I buy her books which are also amazing.
Thank you again Karen Campbell for being such a wonderful instructor who is so great at teaching a large variety of students!.and for giving us such great help on YouTube too! It’s great to have both your books and video resources.

Email From Peggy...

I have just discovered some your tutorials online and they have inspired me to do something I have never done--actually pay attention and try to do a face by the proportion guidelines! In the past I gave up before even trying!

I do keep an art journal and I put my first(drawn by me) face in it this morning!
I like the face! I am going to be doing more of them and practicing a lot all because of you! I am even taking some supplies to practice on my camping vacation!

I will be 73 years old next month!!

Diana from YouTube...

Another great video by Karen! She is the most caring art teacher I've ever met! She doesn't try to sell products, she wants you truly to succeed with your passion for art. She's really and truly concerned about your progress and YES!! - she will answer your emails!! WHO does that??
The best teacher I've come across on the web and I've been a fan of hers for a few years now!
Greatly helped me improve my art skills!!
Many, many thanks dear Karen :)

YouTube comment...

Oh I love this, another amazing masterpiece Karen. I'm so glad I have found your videos, you have helped me a lot, can't wait for the next vid!

Glenne from YouTube...

Karen don't worry to much about your hand being in the way. You give so much information about what your doing that it makes sense when you show us the drawing. I have never known anyone who is as giving with there talents as you are Karen. Your 100% genuine supportive encouraging in everything you do to help others learn. Finding you and your channel on YouTube has changed my life for the better and I'm eternally grateful. Even when I'm to ill to create you inspire me to let go of the mountain of barriers that I have around me that were keeping from being able to do any arts or crafts. And I'm delighted to say today was the first time I tried sketching an eye as you were doing yours. And I loved every minute of it. You are just a absolute joy to watch Karen. You are changing how the world thinks and does there art and mixed media. 💖 Hugs Glenne

Sue, Fun Fab Drawing Club student...

Hi Karen!
I just wanted to Thank you for this past week and weekend!
It was so fun being a part of like minded women and all of us there because of you!
You have given me so much confidence that I joined Facebook- something I was never going to do... and here I am posting pictures and commenting on other artists and having a blast!
I found you because I was looking for how to use Gelatos!
There you were with this awesome attitude and like-able personality!
That made me look into your website and I was like What?
You made me want to draw👏 -something else I thought I’d never learn!
I love how you break art down into doable pieces!
So you have made me feel so good about myself!
Your lessons are invaluable and so are you!!!
Thank you!☺️

Hello friend! I have completed this portion of the course and loved every minute of it. Your teaching skills are excellent and I love your sweet quirky personality. I have spread word of your workshops everywhere. Much love and appreciation, see you in the next lesson.

Renee from Awesome Art School...

Thank you so much for creating this course! I just got into drawing my own art one year ago and your course is everything that a paid course should be. So far I have gained a lot of knowledge! And this is only the 2nd video...THANKS AGAIN!

Mavi from Facebook...

Karen, I hope you can really believe how much important you are for us newbies artists that love whimsy mixed media art. I love faces and you are so diverse; reason why I admire and follow you. Additionally, I love your charming straight talk personality. You are so open and honest. You don't hold back anything, and you give to use much much much more than you think.  I can see the content of your self-published books, besides the stunning art, is a gem for learning. Wow, thanks so much. Since the time I found you, always I have been an "awwww" moment. I hope many others like me can find you. Love to your path!

Deb from YouTube

I have been watching U tube for years and this is the best instructional video I have seen.Thank you Thank you!!!!

Karen, I have only found you recently and have to say I find your enthusiasm and chatter amazing and so much fun I hope you never change I like your method of teaching as well. I have been doing Mixed media since 2001 and have learned more from you in the short time I have been watching you then I have in all the classes I have joined and all the other You-tubers I have watched thank you for that.

Karine from Facebook...

I really would like to thank you, Karen, for all those fun and educational tutorials that I was lucky to find online and which revived a spark long forgotten. I like to let people know when I think they are doing a great job and impating for the best on people's lives, so here you have the expression of my appreciation and gratitude for your generosity and for all I have learned from you, be it technique or just the confidence and motivation to "just do it".

Monika, email letter...

Being 44 yrs old now.... I have known all my life that I am not capable of drawing. And definitely not a face ! Even If I draw a dog, it either looks like some deformed alien or a scary "no-telling-what-that-is"....but I see 4 legs...sort of thing. I have zero 3d imagination for drawing. Some can visualize images in their head and put it down on paper. Me ? Oh no. Not this one. And I have tried. Off and on..
I started journaling this year to try to overcome anxiety due to losing my dad and also wanted to draw a bit..just some sort of artistic outlet.
Love art, always have. I work a full time job and my hubby and myself also make leather-goods outside our jobs. This far, that was my outlet. Love working with leather and creating.
Anywho, so I scour youtube on mixed media journaling and bump into you....and oh my. Signed up for the free tutorial and went for it last night ! Oh my face !!!  I did cry. Tears of joy ! after looking at my very first EVER face. I kept saying "I really did this!". Even hubby was so excited for me. Wants to have it framed. Why yes indeed ! It will be ! With this being said, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your amazing work, making the videos super fun and being uplifting !!!
Thank you lady !!!!!! Keep up the amazing work !!!! I could have never done this had it not been for your video !!!
Attached is my proof ;-).

Tiffany from YouTube

I sat down today for the first time ever to draw a face from your tutorial!!!! And omg i actually did it with shading!!!!! Im in art therapy and im using all your mixed media tips and its absolutely amazing what I'vve created!!!!!! Thank u for helping me with my inner healing through art!!!!!! So blessed i found u on YouTube thank you!!!!!!!!!

Felicia from Awesome Art School...

I am so excited I'm taking your classes. You make so much sense!

StrellitaKreativa from YouTube...

Hi!! I'm so happy that I found you a couple of weeks ago. Let me tell you that you are amazing! In no time and following you I can draw, OMG!!! This is wonderful! Thank you so much! Love your way of teaching :)

Sonia from Facebook...

I have learnt so much from you and you have given me the confidence to try new things. You are such a joy to watch and to listen to. I find myself laughing out loud and smiling when I watch your tutorials and videos. Thank you for all the fun.

Diane from Facebook...

Making good videos isn't all about talent it's about personality too. You have to like the person you are watching. For me you are my fav YouTuber! I've learnt so much watching you and I enjoy it!

Tracy from Facebook says...

When I decided to take the plunge and actually ACT on the art I wanted to do, I followed just 3 artists. Karen Campbell is one of them. I watch, follow and secretly girlcrush on this artist. If you're looking for inspiration, instruction, fun or anything else arty, you need to check ou her website, youtube and Facebook Page.  I think she's helped make me a better, definitely braver, artist and I cannot WAIT to get my grubby hands on her new book and I plan on doing NOTHING this weekend but play play play with it.

Phoenix from YouTube...

I love you...I love your bright attitude! And I am just getting started and you've helped me so much!

Linda, email letter...

Somewhere along the line I ran across your youtube videos....  Girl, you just blew my mind.  Your upbeat, kind, entertaining way of teach and motivating had me hooked.  I never dreamed or even consider drawing faces. I bought some J Davenport stencils so if I needed a face I could make one... but draw one myself.. nah... can't do that.   You changed that for me.
So before I get down to business I want to say thank you so very much for sparking a flame.  I feel like, while I might never be a natural, I might have found a home.  Thank you so much. <3 <3 <3

Debi from YouTube

I’ve never reached out to a complete stranger before but I needed to share what a difference watching your videos has made in, not only my art, but in my every work life! My new mantra because of you has become “ let it go and move on”. I have a tendency to get bogged down in trying to gain perfection.
That ever elusive, ever unattainable perfection! But no more I say!! Embrace the imperfections and watch your doubts and fears slip away! Here’s to art in whatever form floats your boat.

Thanks Karen, and keep up the AWESOME

Note from Carol

Hi Karen, I just wanted to thank you so much for making art so much fun. I’m an artist myself but you have basically awakened my soul and sparked a fire under me to give me a push to be all I can be, to learn new things and the excitement of it all is really overwhelming but I love it. Funny thing is...I bought a lot of supplies, not everything I wanted but just enough to dive in. I sit in my art room by the window and every time I see a fed-ex or ups truck I get excited like a little kid. No supplies yet but any day now. Can’t wait. Thanks again for sharing your most awesome talent.

Nicole from YouTube

I watched this video because I wanted to see what the Stabilos are like and since I follow you, I trust your judgement. Your books are great and your tutorials are spot on. But I couldn't help laughing at your boo-boo! You are simply fantastic, how you turned that into something perfect. You are so full of creativity. I think would have tried to wipe it off and then ruined everything. You are not only and excellent teacher but totally entertaining. This world needs people like you. May God continue to pour His blessings on you.

Jacky from YouTube

Aaahh, I have been binge watching your vids, I've signed up to your online classes and I am SO FRICKEN HAPPY to have found you!! You say things that I tell myself and it's so comforting to see someone else in the world just rocking what they love! Love your style, love your words, love what you teach, keep up the amazing work! And thank you!!! Xo

Nina from YouTube

Yessss!!!! I have the hamburger sheet, canNot wAiT for the next one!!! Imagine my surprise when I went & bought all sorts of sprays, markers, & inks, just to find out they MOVE when disturbed with liquid. So frustrating. (Unfortunately, they don’t share this information on the product labeling) Thank you for condensing everything into some basic categories. The little tips & tricks, and condensing all of this info., sets you apart in the GinORmouS world of mixed media. Thank you for being a great teacher....🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Deb from YouTube

I just watched this video and I laughed so much throughout. Even my husband sat down and enjoyed watching you for part of it. You are just so down to earth, someone that I can connect with and relate to. I just had to tell you that you never fail to make me laugh and you always come through as being real and not fake. I love that! You again I have to say are the best art teacher I’ve ever watched. I hope you never stop making YouTube videos because you are my favorite!!!

Note from Angela...

So grateful and appreciative I have found you. You have taken me out of my "fear of failure" capsule into – I can do this and why because following you I don’t feel like I can fail. (even if its not perfect)

Note from YouTube fan:

I was able to follow along with this part of the video. I have never sketched before in my life. Stick figures tend to even allude me. You made me feel it could totally be doable, and I love you very simple, completely visual/detailed explanations of “how to” step by step broken down in a way I can comprehend perfectly. In other words, you speak my language I need in order understand for me to be taught and follow along. I have autism and severe dyslexia, so my comprehension and brain tends to work in a specific manner. Thank you for sharing, guiding, and making it fun to learn and do. Most of all thank you for un-complicating it for me.

What Fans Are Saying

Karen, you are absolutely fabulous! You make me feel like I can draw anything. I have recently retired and finally have the time to do some of the art that I have loved since I was in school. I am really at the beginning of my art journey and I hope to learn as much as I can. Thank you for all you do.

-Jill Y.

I ordered your Fun Fab Faces book and loved it! I was having a little trouble getting the noses I wanted and now it's easy! Also, I love how you stressed how important having the three tones in your drawing is. Thanks a bunch!

-Donna L.

Thank you Karen! I never though I could do faces. You broke it down so it was understandable! And I love your book! I got it yesterday! Can't wait to start practicing! It's so much fun!!!!!

-Debbie M.

Thank you for the encouragement to get back into my drawing and painting. After being away for 35 years.  THANK YOU.
