Hey Mixed Media Society member!

I hope all is FANTASTIC in your world and you're in the mood to play with your Tombow dual brush pens, because THIS is the week we finally get to work on our Tombows capstone project, and get to paint this dark-skinned woman together!! Isn't she stunning?!

This 1.5 hour project is really advanced and will give you the opportunity to FLEX all those Tombow skills you've been building up until this point. She was challenging for me, but I enjoyed EVERY MINUTE, and hope YOU do too:)

Supplies:

Use what you have, this is what I used:
Black Carbon transfer paper: https://amzn.to/3ajeau0

Fabriano Hot Press Watercolor Paper 11” x 14” https://amzn.to/3kVTJsj

Pentel GraphGear Mechanical Pencil https://amzn.to/3OMntBT

Pentel Arts Sign Pen w/ Micro Brush https://amzn.to/3JhAjZ2

Copic Opaque Paint with Brush https://amzn.to/3Dfr1ZW

I purchase my Tombows individually from Jerry's Artarama (they have loose stock) so you can check the Skin Tone Set and see which ones are included and which ones are not. Or purchase them individually.

If you can only afford a few, I'd get the following for this project:
020
905
947
899
Black

and use coupon code KARENCAMPBELL to save 10% off your order

Skin Tone Colored Pencils (mine are random from a million different sets. I kinda hate colored pencils, but have come to not despise them when I use them on top of alcohol marker projects and Tombow projects like this one! If you don't have a colored pencil set, I like this one: https://amzn.to/3sjXonD)

The face drawing reference photo for today's lesson is of course in the classroom, so make sure you grab that before you get started!

✨LAST WEEK, I added 4 "Old School Round-up Lessons" to the Skin Tones classroom in case you were looking for related lessons to additional practice. There are two grayscale projects, and two in color.

What Else is Happening in August?

Not much! This week's capstone project will most likely drag into next week so I don't want to overwhelm you with any new lessons on the 27th. Plus - if you're a "Wonder Bundler," you've got a new figure drawing lesson coming out next Sunday!

But after that ... I hope you're ready, because it's time to close the chapter on our Tombows for a bit, so we can start working with a NEW art supply to make beautiful skin tones - watercolors!

Can't wait!!

What Fans Are Saying

Karen, you are absolutely fabulous! You make me feel like I can draw anything. I have recently retired and finally have the time to do some of the art that I have loved since I was in school. I am really at the beginning of my art journey and I hope to learn as much as I can. Thank you for all you do.

-Jill Y.

I ordered your Fun Fab Faces book and loved it! I was having a little trouble getting the noses I wanted and now it's easy! Also, I love how you stressed how important having the three tones in your drawing is. Thanks a bunch!

-Donna L.

Thank you Karen! I never though I could do faces. You broke it down so it was understandable! And I love your book! I got it yesterday! Can't wait to start practicing! It's so much fun!!!!!

-Debbie M.

Thank you for the encouragement to get back into my drawing and painting. After being away for 35 years.  THANK YOU.

- Teresa S.
