Hey Mixed Media Society Member!! I hope your February is off to a beautiful start :) I'm SO excited for this lesson to be out for you to enjoy. I was totally teasing you with it - flashing it in the background of my How to Use Oil Pastels as a Mixed Media Artist series on YouTube! Now... it's FINALLY your turn to work on this sexy babe step-by-step with me :) *All product links are affiliate & for U.S. residents only.* If you've been hanging out with me on YouTube too, you know I'm a newbie to oil pastels :) I've been asked by TONS of my mixed media students over the years to learn HOW to work with them so I could TEACH THEM! So that's what I've been doing!! You'll find that this project starts off kinda hamburger style, but instead of reaching for our gelatos to shade this cutie's face - we're gonna grab our oil pastels! And that's pretty much it in terms of supplies. We might add a little colored pencil, but there's no further layering with mod podge or other sealants. Since we quit adding layers, and are only using a few supplies- this is a "hot dog" style project! As always, use whatever you have on hand and love most, here's what I used... SuppliesMungyo Gallery Soft Oil Pastels Set of 48: https://amzn.to/47Wnigl (This is MY favorite brand of the ones I tried - if you're a newbie here like me, feel free to check out my YouTube video about which oil pastel brands I tested and why I ended up liking Mungyo most). Paints are by Liquitex Basics in the following colors: White https://amzn.to/40OmqIz Portrait (Light) Pink https://amzn.to/3ujilA2 Brilliant Purple https://amzn.to/49Gkhmo Bright Aqua Green https://amzn.to/3MNVR0u I painted some blue in her hair but I cover it all up in oil pastels so I won't bother listing it! I'm working on this Canva Artboard 12 x 16 https://amzn.to/47BDuUs but panels would be a bit cheaper: https://amzn.to/47BDuUs Bottles in a Glove for hand protection: https://amzn.to/49wIDPg Blending stump or Qtip for smooshing Fixative if you like (I never use) https://amzn.to/40GLpgO And colored pencils to match YOUR colors! FYI - I found Derwent Drawing and Prismacolors were most suitable for this project. 👉Ready to start this sexy mama?! ME TOO!! Looking for Something Else?Maybe you don't have any oil pastels yet, or just aren't in the mood to drag those out. I hear ya. We have SOOOO many FUN projects to play with inside the Mixed Media Society. The choices are basically endless. Just in case you're a new member, I wanna make sure you know WHERE to go to find alternative lessons. I think the easiest thing to do is hop over to the Visual Index. That's what I call this page of my website (the first option in the dropdown menu called "See All the Projects!", under Mixed Media Society). When ya scroll down this page, you'll see info about everything inside the club, and then you'll hit all the classrooms just bursting at the seams with lessons for you. If you're a newbie, you DEFINITELY want to start in the Stage 0 classroom called "The Starter." This will tell ya everything you need to know and more about mixed media art supplies - PLUS help you cut through the clutter of all the brands and all the things so you can just find a few staples and START ART-ing already :) Because let's be honest- THAT is why you're here. To art your heart out!! "The Starter" classroom is also awesome for more seasoned artists who just want to learn more about what I use and why. I'm all about finding the supplies that give you the most VALUE for your $$$, and help you have the most FUN without breaking the bank:) If you're good on supplies, head to the next classroom and work your way through each lesson consecutively, OR skip around and just choose something that speaks to you and is calling your name while you're scrolling around :) Then hit the play button, go grab your supplies, and art the day away!! Speaking of art-ing the DAY away - why don't you go pick something from the Visual Index right now and start playing? I drop these blue buttons everywhere too in case you forget where the Visual Index "lives" on my website :) It's no biggie. Click the button below and find your next FUN, step-by-step mixed media project just waiting for you to enjoy it!! What's Coming UpWatch your inbox for an email from me later this week with a link to join me for our next Happy Hour LIVE on this coming Friday!! And stay tuned for a Guest Teacher lesson coming at the end of the month from our very own student-turned-teacher, Bryn Nguyen!! How awesome is THIS chick?! MORE Quick Links for You

What Fans Are SayingKaren, you are absolutely fabulous! You make me feel like I can draw anything. I have recently retired and finally have the time to do some of the art that I have loved since I was in school. I am really at the beginning of my art journey and I hope to learn as much as I can. Thank you for all you do. |
