Hey Fun Fab Drawing Club member!!

I'm SO excited one of my favorite months of the year is finally here!! And it's even slightly chilly today in NC as I write this - which I also LOVE :)

You know what October ALSO means... it's time to get your spooky art on!! If you were hangin' out with me in the Fun Fab Drawing Club this time last year, we did fun Addams Family drawings ALL month long.

Since we had so much fun with these black pen and ink drawing projects last October, I thought it would be fun to do something similar with the Munsters Family!!

Today's fun new lesson kicks this series off with little Eddie. Isn't he a riot? Check out those caterpillar eyebrows, widow's peak, and wonky teeth!! Poor kid?

How bad do you think he was teased for this costume growing up?!

How to Draw & Shade a SEXY & Super Sultry Face!!

Hey Fun Fab Drawing Club Member!!

I hope you're as excited as I am to start on a new expression....

Super sexy and sultry.... va, va VOOM!

So FUN, am I right?!

I've dropped a copy of the face drawing reference image I used, along with a PDF of my final to help you along.

When coloring time for this lesson, I started with marker shades from a combo in my Skin Tone Secrets book, page 36. Remember, YOU HAVE ACCESS to an eBook version of this right HERE.

I've also left a PDF of page 36 in the classroom for you. Grab all the resources for today's lesson HERE.

If you've been a club member, or even YouTube follower, for a while - you know I'm ALL about showing you everything- the good, bad, and the ugly.

When I make a mistake, I will NOT edit it out, because this is how we ALL learn! And you're right, if you think I'm about to tell ya I made a mistake while filming this lesson, I sure did.

The issue I had was a problem with SCALE. The reference I was using was on my phone, so of course I wanted to blow that up to fill a large piece of paper, right? Well, this is where the problems started.

The face on today's girlie is upturned - which makes proportions a challenge anyway. Hopefully, YOU learn a valuable lesson by watching me mess up and work my way out of the little pickle I got myself into!

Art is SO often just as much about problem-solving as it is just having fun!!

How to Shade a Fun Fab FIERCE Figure Drawing in Alcohol Markers

Hey Fun Fab Drawing Club Member!!

❤️️Fancy meeting YOU here!❤️️

This week, I've released part two of the lesson we started last week, so we can color in our Fun Fab FIERCE Figure drawing. That's a mouthful!

LOL. I don't know about you, but I just LOVE coloring with alcohol markers. They pack SO much punch in such a short time.
It's like marker to paper, and BOOM! You're done!

Fineliner Tips

If you're ready to dive right into the coloring portion of this project,
grab your markers and let's get to it!

Before I did any shading, I outlined the entire figure in black fineliner (These are the Molotow Fineliners I love https://amzn.to/3Bp41GF. If these are out of your price range, I recently discovered a cheaper alternative that also works well: https://amzn.to/3DKH0i8).

Make sure you are using water-based or pigment-based fineliners so they don't smear if/when you start coloring with alcohol markers. This is SUPER important. If you use an alcohol-based marker like a fine liner sharpie - it will create issues because the alcohol fineliner lines will try to "blend" with the alcohol marker shading. Your outlines won't look crisp and awesome anymore, and if you're using any light colored alcohol markers, dragging these over your black alcohol marker outlines can wreck your lighter shade markers.

Trust me - I learned the hard way :)

Water or pigment-based fineliners are a MUST if you want to outline or add details in black. By the way, outlining can be done either before OR after you shade. I've done both. Today I just started with outlining.

I also used Copics for color in all the basic primary and secondary colors (that's fancy speak for RAINBOW colors :) And some greys too.

👉Last week I released a 1-Hour lesson Face #3, (below) in a Fun Fab FIERCE style. If you did this with me, read the blog, or email from last week, you already know I wasn't thrilled with my end results. LOL!

Because of that, this week I've come back with a "take 2" of that project, and created a little 30-Minute-lesson for you called Brain Stretches & Sketches with Karen. It's short and sweet and extremely helpful! I really dig into WHY my original face didn't look as fierce as I'd hoped she would, and share a ton of tips about how to choose excellent face drawing references like the ones shown below (I have a PDF of these angry face drawing references in the classroom for you too!).

Understanding what makes an AWESOME face drawing reference image is a super important skill to have for all types of face drawing, but is essential if we want to draw expressive faces, as you'll see :)

I'm LOVING how her hair turned out, it's kinda like she popped out of a comic book, isn't it?!

Now the face, I'm not gonna lie - I'd like to see her looking even MORE FIERCE. I'm definitely giving her another go, and am already working on a mini-lesson of my second attempt for you for next week.

That being said - I hope YOUR FACE turns out FIERCE the first time! And gets even bolder each time you do the lesson.
